The Orchard Festival

This weekend (October 1st and 2nd) you will be able to take part in the Orchard Festival at Chartwell.  One of the first things Sir Winston Churchill did when he came to Chartwell was place a huge order for fruit trees.  The fruit from those trees were used in the kitchens of Chartwell and 10 Downing Street and we still send them up to the Chartwell restaurant today.  At the festival, which is a free event included with admission,  there will be special tastings in the shop, the chance to pick your own apples and take them home with you as well as a chance to speak to members of the garden team at Chartwell about apple tree maintenance and care.

Sunday will also mark the last day at work for Assistant Head Gardener Simon Walker.  He is sadly leaving us to become Head Gardener at nearby Emmetts Garden.  Simon will be missed by all the team but I’m sure we’ll see him back in our yard from time to time when he needs to borrow our tractor or just pop in for a tea and a biscuit!  A picture from Simon’s informal leaving lunch can be seen below…
