Pretty As A Picture!

DSCF0062

I don’t wish to blow our own collective trumpet or anything, but I’m fairly confident when I say that I reckon nigh on every single person that has ever paid a visit to us here in the gardens of Chartwell would say that it is one of the prettiest gardens in the country! A bold statement? If everyone loves the place as half as much as I do then I don’t think so. And I’m also pretty sure that most of our visitors will have gotten their camera/phone/iPad (delete as appropriate) out and snapped away so that they would have some pictoral memories to take home with them too.

So why am I waxing lyrical about the aesthetics of Sir Winston’s gardens, you may ask? Well, I’ve had a bit of a mad idea about producing a calendar for 2014 featuring only pictures from our gardens here at Chartwell. You will probably have seen the National Trust garden calendar that is released in the various shops every year full of amazing shots from some of the fantastic gardens from around England, Wales and Northen Ireland that make up the Trust’s portfolio. So confident am I in the beauty of Chartwell though, that I think we can fill our own version with a perfect picture for every month of the year. But I need your help to do so.

We are asking our visitors to submit their favourite photographs of the Chartwell gardens to us for inclusion in the official Chartwell Gardens Calendar 2014. We will select the best ones for everyone to marvel at for themselves. The winners will recieve a free copy of the final calendar and the prestige of featuring in what is sure to be a best selling item in our shop! All you have to do is send your snaps to chartwellphotographs@nationaltrust.org.uk. To get the best results, they should be of as high a resolution as possible and ideally in the landscape format. Here are some ideas to get your David Bailey-esque juices flowing!

Maybe you've even captured one of the gardeners hard at work?! Although to be honest, any pictures with this funny looking chap in probably won't make the cut!

It probably goes without saying but I’d better mention that by submitting your pictures to us, you give us permssision to use them in our calendar and any related publicity material. Also, try to only select your very best attempts at photgraphic perfection as our little email inbox might not be able to survive with hundreds of high res images popping into it at once! There is a deadline of the end of June for your submissions. So whether you’ve taken pictures of our gardens already or are still planning on paying us a visit between now and then, please get involved. Winston Churchill famously said that “a day away from Chartwell is a day wasted”. Why not take the man at his word and come and pay us a visit very soon. Just make sure you bring your cameras!

I’ll definitely bring my camera next time we visit! There’s certainly no shortage of subject matter in Chartwell!

  2. What a great idea. I love the photo of the gloves on the clothesline and Jock strolling in the garden. Perhaps next year, Ii can bring a group of artists to the UK to paint in your garden.
